Evaluation of the situation of injuries and deathsat schools and workplaces after the intervention in Thanh Mien district, Hai Duong province Luu Hoai Chuan et al Place of publication: World Health Organisation (WHO) Year of publication: 2004 Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the project after some intervention activitiesin Thanh Mien district, Hai Duong province. Subjects: Children, juverniles and people of the working age 19-60. Methods: Interview using questionnaires for all the households in the four communes of Thanh Mien (intervention-district) and Binh Giang (control-district). Findings: The proportion of injuries in the intervention district has decreased for 34% compared to the time prior to the intervention. There is no significant difference in injuries among the age groups. In both districts, there is a clear difference in the proportion of injuries between males and females with the greater proportion of males being injured. The proportion of injuries in Thanh Mien district tends to decrease slightly compared to the time prior to intervention, but in Binh Giang that proportion tends to increase. Some experience lessons in order to multiply the model in other localities: - Reinforce the leading and managing role of local authorities. - Mobilize the participation of authorities, social organisations and community in the task of injuries prevention. - Monitor and manage the situation of injuries in the area; emphasize theprevention of common injuries, for high risk subjects. - Organise communication and education programmes with diverse and simple, easy to understand forms. - Discover and overcome the risk factors that may lead to injuries. - Organise an effective first aid system.
